FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)

First Robotics Competition Homepage

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a large-scale competition that many club members participate in throughout the year. Teams work to build 120 lb robots on $20,000 budgets each year for the new game. Team members construct the robots using their own power tools and materials and control the robot using real world electronics and software. The money to fund these massive projects comes from companies that funds teams after they go around making presentations and looking for sponsors. The program gives students legitimate work experience and a strong grasp of what it is like to run a real engineering company.

Most Mission San Jose students participate in FRC through Team 2489 (The Insomniacs). The Insomniacs was started in 2006 by students from MSJ but since then has been expanding into a citywide team with members from many different schools. The team has roughly 30 members who are split into two divisions, build and business. Build division works on construction and design of the robot, while business division raises money throughout the year.
